*Please Take Time To Read Before Buying Your Puppy*
Deposits and Prices
Most people send us a deposit because they have met our
dogs and are impressed with the 5 year health guarantee. In order to hold a place in the order of puppy picks, a non-refundable
deposit of $200 is required. It is applied towards the purchase price of $1000 (for pets), and the remaining balance is then
$800.
We send out puppy pictures via email, generally on a weekly
basis. The photos are not meant to serve as a means for you to select a puppy. Puppies are evaluated for show potential around
6 weeks of age. Some puppies will remain here, and others may go to show homes. Once those placements are determined, the
puppies that weren't selected for show homes will be made available to the homes seeking pets in the order that the deposits
were received. However, the temperament and disposition of each puppy is considered in relation to the types of homes they
may be going, as well. We have the final discretion on the puppy placements.
*Also, we request that people with high ranking deposits
schedule their pick up times early, as we cannot delay letting others below on the deposit list select simply because we cannot
arrange an agreeable pick up time.
We try to accommodate coat color preferences as much as
possible; however, if you are offered puppies that do not suit what you are looking for, you are not required to take one
at that time. You are welcome to wait for a future litter that may contain your preference. Your deposit would move up in
the order once people above you had selected their puppies, but will not be refunded.
The purchase price for show puppies is $1500.
*Sorry, we do not sell pet puppies overseas.
*Any shipping expenses are the responsibility of the purchaser
and must be paid in advance.
What You Are Paying For
Our
Canadian Kennel Club registered puppies are offered with a five year health guarantee against genetic defects, as well as
optional puppy starter kits. Each puppy is microchipped before going to its new home.
Every litter we have, we class each puppy as either show or pet quality. The “pet quality”
puppies are available to loving home where they will essentially be just pets, and will not partake in any breeding programs
or dog shows. They can of course still compete for titles in activities such as obedience, sledding, agility, etc. These puppies
are sold with limited registration only.
Limited registration is a tool offered by the Canadian Kennel Club for responsible breeders to
protect their breeding programs and their puppies. Limited registration is just like “regular” registration, except
that limited registration dogs may not be shown in conformation, and their offspring cannot be registered. Puppies that are
not selected for future showing or breeding possibilities are sold on a limited registration basis. The CKC and responsible
breeders recognize the fact that breeding without experience and knowledge leads to problems within the breed. Breeding should
only occur through dogs/bitches who have distinguished themselves in some manner and under the auspices of breeders well versed
in genetic qualities and issues within the breed, experienced at whelping and raising puppies, and finding and screening potential
good homes for them.
Limited registration is reversible to “full” registration, but only by us, as the
breeders of your puppy. Most of our puppies are sold with limited registration and we require them to
be spayed or neutered within a 12 month time period. Failure to comply with these terms may mean legal action and
may result in the loss of ownership of the puppy.
Naturally,
we do accept applicants wishing to purchase pups with full registration and breeding rights, but we do charge more and
are much stricter with the terms. The pups we deem as “show quality” are available to reputable breeders or owners
wishing to show or breed in the future. These applicants are very carefully screened before we allow the puppy to go home.
We do not want to provide breeding stock to a puppy mill. Our “show quality” puppies go home with full registration.
In some cases, we are not able to keep all the “show quality” puppies or place them in show homes. In the
event of this happening, they will be sold as pets. We do require new owners to stay in touch with us and keep us
updated for the first two years. In some cases, we may request an on-site kennel visit before sending the puppy to a
new home. Further updates after the two-year period are encouraged but not required.
Here
at WildWinters, we have a lifetime commitment to our dogs. In the event that the owner of one of our dogs is unable to care
for him any longer, and that person does not have friends or relatives who would be willing to care for the dog, we require
that the dog is returned to us free of charge.
Take
a moment and decide what you will be doing with your Siberian. Will you be showing him in a ring? Will you take partake in
any winter sports? Or will he enjoy a family who take him walking twice a day and play with him regularly? Please...if you
are looking for a pretty dog that doesn't take much time or effort to care for...buy a stuffed toy. These are real beings
with hearts full of love, waiting to be part of your family. They deserve you time and devotion.

Pet Quality vs Show Quality
A
pet quality pup is one who would not do well in the show ring and should not be bred according to the breeder's better judgment.
The length of coat or how he carries his tail is of little importance in a pet home. This does not mean that he is of a lesser
quality than a show pup nor that he will have health problems. Chances are that if one pup is susceptible to health issues,
the entire litter will be.
The
difference between “Pet” and “Show” quality can be quite small and generally not obvious to the inexperienced
eye. The grading of puppies is an educated guess based on a number of characteristics such as the way the ears are set, the
size of the head and muzzle, the movement of the puppy, the angles of the shoulder, the way it carries the tail, or simply
an indescribable feeling that this puppy has a show attitude. As with any educated guess, a breeder can be wrong and when
a “puppy” is seen a year or two later, a breeder may realize a mistake was made (and oh, what an opportunity for
learning that is).
We
may sell show quality pups as pets because we cannot afford to keep every show quality puppy. When looking for a
puppy, many people specify that they want "only a pet" because they won't have to pay as much. Most breeders, us included, do
charge more if you want to purchase the breeding rights of the dog. Bear in mind, that we may require you to spay/neuter,
regardless to what you say, if we feel that the dogs is not a very good model of the breed. Unless you plan to show or
breed the dog, a pet quality puppy is perfect.
On
occasion, we may wish to retain a puppy for show or breeding purposes. Since we have limited space to house additional dogs,
we often look for homes where there is an interest in showing and future breeding possibilities, and we offer the opportunity
to enter into a “co-ownership” agreement.

A co-ownership?
The co-ownership agreement is used between us and the new puppy owner when that puppy has been
determined to have a potential for show and breeding purposes. Co-ownership may be a bit of a misnomer, because the puppy
owner is “the” owner. As breeder, we retain the breeding rights and the right to show the dog. While the owner
has final say, the rights to breed and show cannot be unreasonably withheld.
As with any contract, there have to be benefits to both the breeder and the owner for it to be
successful. You simply cannot have a contract without those mutual benefits. If we call on you to consider co-ownership, you
will be given a basic agreement. The agreements are different for dogs and bitches because of the vastly different issues
regarding breeding. Many of the terms are fixed and non-negotiable. An example is expenses incurred in showing the dog are
born by the owner. Other terms have some limited room for modification based on individual requirements and experience. An
example might be the location the puppies are to be whelped. We will take time to discuss and document each and every item
in great detail so that in the future, there will be no surprises.
And just remember, if you are not called to consider co-ownership, it is not because your puppy
is somehow inferior. Remember the discussion on Pet versus Show Quality. As a breeder, although we are backed by years of
experience, we can point to a decision or two that did not turn out to be the right ones. Your puppy is the lucky one, who
gets to go home and become your wonderful companion. The show dog or bitch has a job to do in furthering the quality and recognition
of the breed.
