Our dog yard is spread out over an area
of about 100' X 130'. This area includes five 15'X 20' kennels and a 100' X 30' enclosed runway where we can hook up dogs
to sleds with worrying that they will run away. The main yard contains ten circle tie-outs, each one outfitted with a ten-foot
chain attached at ground level. This gives each dog more room than a kennel would provide. It is also cost effective. There
is a five-foot gap between dog circles so that there can never be any accidental fights or breedings. The entire perimeter is
fenced with 5' high lawn fencing, all the way around.
Our
dogs are primarily tethered on long chains where pack bonding is enhanced by not having a fence between dogs, as described
in Doug Willet’s kenneling vs. tethering article. They often enjoy playtime on sunny afternoons in the spacious kennels either roughhousing or sunbathing. The
younger dogs are kept full time in kennels where they are permitted to dig holes, chew on bones or play with littermates.
The
dog yard is cleaned twice daily, once in the morning after they get their soup and again at night when they eat. This keeps
them clean and smelling good. We built our dog yard on a hill so that the water runs away quickly. It does get very muddy
in the spring, but for the most part, the dogs do not have wet areas. The almost constant running up and down the hill in
each of their respective areas also helps them develop strong muscles for later use out on the trail. If you want to

Please remember that if you are considering a Siberian as a family pet, they must be kept
confined, for other’s safety and for their own as well . Most Siberians will prey on small animals and tend wander independently.
Contrary to common belief, Siberians are NOT loyal and therefore make poor guard dogs. They are extremely sociable and often
Siberians will develop anxiety problems without proper attention, be it human or pet. Having a Siberian is literally like
having a toddler, they are stubborn, independent and mischievous, but also fun, loving family members.
